Thank you for supporting Brainfood. With your help, we are providing young people with the space, tools, mentorship, and connections they need to become the next generation of leaders and food entrepreneurs.

Volunteer With Brainfood

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our work at Brainfood. Whether they’re turning compost in the youth garden, staffing a fundraiser registration table, being a listening ear for a Brainfood teen, or testing a sweet potato biscuit in our kitchen, volunteers make it possible to do the work we do.

Volunteers who sign up for our eight-month programs have the opportunity to work one-on-one in the kitchen with students each week. We also rely on volunteers during special events like garden work days and fundraisers.

Brainfood Volunteer Opportunities Overview

Here are some stories from our great volunteers!

I was fortunate to work with a core group of students for 2, 3, and 4 years through the Community Cooking Coaches program, getting to know them and their families, while supporting them throughout the program year. This gave me the opportunity to watch the students develop leadership, communication and presentation skills that, hopefully, will serve them well as they move onto college and careers. Loved seeing students take the knowledge/skills learned at Brainfood back to their homes, sharing with family and friends. It all makes you feel, that in some small way, you are making a difference in students lives.

I’ve volunteered for Brainfood as an IT advisor since 2008. The energy of the Brainfood staff has always been off the charts and was a real inspiration for me to get involved. Their passion for the mission makes me want to give continuously and be there when needed.

Brainfood is literally the highlight of my week. I really love hanging out and getting to know the students. I have been lucky to watch a handful of the students I started with in beginner programs grow up and mature in the past three years before my eyes. They make me so proud and they inspire me to try new things, be more creative and think out of the box when I cook.

I’ve been a Brainfood weekly classroom assistant for six years, and am always inspired by the Brainfood model and how it engages young adults while building and supporting lifelong skills like teamwork, cooperation and of course cooking.

I love having the opportunity to make a difference in some else’s life and I love cooking too. It’s perfect!
